The Idea...

The idea behind Virtual Impressions is this: You take a picture and create links over this picture...much like Image Maps with a Web Browser. With Virtual Impressions, however, your links can Launch Applications, Control Panels and Desk Accessories, Open Documents, Open Folders, Mount Remote Volumes, Display Pictures, Play Sounds, Open Web Sites (through Netscape or Internet Explorer), Open Other Layers and Virtual Worlds, and do more! All with a simple click of your mouse.

Yes, Virtual Impressions is somewhat like an Image Map Web Browser...but a Turbo Image Map Browser! With Virtual Impressions your "Web" consists of any application, Web Site (or html file), control panel, desk accessory, volume, folder, file, picture, sound, etc. that you can access. Virtual Impressions let's you create a "UniNet" (universal network) from the Internet, from your Intranet, from your AppleTalk network, or from any volume attached to your SCSI interface (including your built-in hard drive)!

This is best shown in the following diagram:

Simplicity!

The power of Virtual Impressions lies in its simplicity. Just click your mouse over a region of a picture where you have previously created a link and (for example) an application is launched or a document is opened.

If several similar links lie in the same region of the picture, you are presented with a popup menu from which you can select the desired link:

Just as important as the simplicity of using Virtual Impressions is the ease of which you create links. Just drag out a rectangle over some part of the picture, select the type of link you wish to create with the the VI Tool, select the application or document, and you've just created a link! It is that easy. Up to 100 links per layer...and up to 64 layers per Virtual World. And since all links use aliases, you don't have to worry about moving files and folders. Virtual Impressions will find the original target!

Browser Support and URL Independence

With it's support of AppleEvents for both Netscape and Internet Explorer, Virtual Impressions new QuickLink feature will let you quickly add and delete Web links with a couple of mouse clicks. This is a very convenient way to maintain current links to your favorite Web sites . And because all URLs are stored within Virtual Impressions, your favorite bookmarked Web sites are Browser independent!

Active Buttons!

Virtual Impressions lets you easily create active buttons which change their appearance when clicked (held down):

Button Up

Button Down

All link types are available for active buttons.

To create an active button link, you just overlay a PICT resource of the button in its clicked (down) state on top of your normal layer Picture. Virtual Impressions takes care of the rest!
