The power of Virtual Impressions lies in the ease of which you
create links. You load a picture (type PICT) and then drag out a
rectangle over the part of the picture where you want to create a
link. Once you have positioned the link rectangle (which you can move
and resize), you select the type of link you wish to create with the
VI Tool and click the Set button. Then, depending upon the type of
link you are creating, you select an application, document, picture,
sound, or enter other information appropriate for that link type.
That's it!
In Program Mode, the VI Tool lets you create 5 basic link
types:
1. Application Type Links (including Applications, Control Panels,
Desk Accessories, Finder, and some specialized functions (like
handling your Trash)).
2. Picture Type Links. These links are for pictures which can be
displayed in a plain or scrolling window for preset times. They can
also be displayed with or without sounds.
3. Sound Type Links. These links let you easily play a sound from
your Macintosh (AIFF File or Snd resource).
4. Open Document Type Links. These links let you readily open a
folder, networked volume, document, remote Web site, local Web (html)
file, or an entirely new Virtual World.
5. New Layer Links. Your Virtual World consists of Layers of links,
each Layer with its own picture. Layer links let you easily move
between Layers in your Virtual World.
When placed in "Show" mode, the VI Tool readily helps you find
existing links. Detailed information about existing links can easily
be obtained and links can be deleted and/or swapped with other links
in the same region of the picture.
The VI Tool also provides easy access to Help. Just press the ? button on the Tool, and you are provided with a popup menu of Help topics. Choose an item from the popup menu, and a new scrolling window appears with detailed information about your chosen topic.
