Creating a Virtual Office

1. Load the Sample Office picture (or any PICT you desire) with Virtual Impressions.

2. Drag a rectangle over some part of the picture where you want to create a link.

For example, let's say you use several word processor type applications (e.g. Word, Simple Text, and BBEdit). A natural place to place a link for any of these applications would be over the pen & pencil set on your desktop:

3. Click the "Launch" buttonin the VI Tool .

4. Click the button and choose "Launch Application" from the popup menu.

5. Choose "Microsoft Word" from the Get File Dialog Box:

You have now created a link to Microsoft Word! Now anytime you run your Virtual World and click on the pen & pencil set image, Microsoft Word will be launched (or brought to the foreground if already running).

Simple enough. But what about additional applications like Simple Text and BBEdit? These can be linked to the same area even easier!

1. With your Virtual World in "Run World" mode, hold down the "shift" key on your keyboard and click the pen & pencil set area on the image. You will immediately be presented with the Get File Dialog Box.

2. Find the application "Simple Text" and click the "Open" button.

That's it! You've now created a second link to this region of the picture. You can repeat this procedure multiple times. But wait a minute....if you have created links to multiple applications over the same part of the picture, how will you be able to select the single desired application? Well...try clicking on the area where you have set the multiple links. You will see something like this:

(applications displayed will depend upon the actual links which you have set)

Popup menus are displayed for all links which reside over the same area of a picture!

You can create similar links anywhere in your Virtual Office for Control Panels, Desk Accessories, Files, Folders, Networked Volumes, Sounds, Pictures, etc. For Files (documents), the creator application is first launched (or brought to the foreground) before the file is opened within the application.

And if this single image is not enough for all of your "possesions", you can put them in other Layers which can be linked (and password protected!) to any part of the image. For example, you can create a password protected drawer which displays a whole different image when clicked, with it's own set of links! In fact, you can create a Virtual Office with up to 64 rooms (images), each having up to 100 links!

AND if you still need more room...you can even link completely different Virtual Worlds to any part of an image. Your Virtual Office can be endless....

OK...I'm sold! How do I get Virtual Impressions?
